The time has changed and it's dark when you get home from work... it already feels like winter. And what's for dinner? You have to stop at the grocery store and pick up a few things and you're tired... sound familiar? And, boy... those rotisserie chickens under those warming lights as you come through the doors at the grocery store sure look tempting... but that price tag... weren't they $5.99 just a couple of weeks ago? It looks like they're $6.99 and $7.99 now... sigh... the food budget...
Cheer up! It's time for a little planning and "cheeeeep eating!" Start watching your weekly grocery ads and buy whole chickens when they are on sale. You'll be able to find fresh, whole chickens for 89 cents a pound... Let's see... that means you can get a good sized one, say 3 1/2 pounds, for about $3.12! Cheeeeeeeep!
All you have to do is use some of your favorite spices like fresh rosemary... some lemon pepper.... garlic... everything goes with chicken.... and pop your bargain bird in the oven for about an hour and you can use the rest of the money for the trimmings and side dishes.
Enjoy your fresh and delicious "cheep eating!"
Frugally yours,
Jan McCracken
