Buyer Beware!

Buyer BEWARE... fortune cookie says, "be careful if you purchase gift cards for gifts"... those gift cards might not even be worth the plastic card in the hand of the receiver! Yikes! If you KNOW that certain stores are already in trouble DON'T purchase a gift card from that store for a friend or loved one for Christmas.

I know that those gift cards are pretty and shiny under the Christmas tree and seem to be more special than cash in an envelope... but "dress up the cash" and make a homemade Christmas card... and, think about it... If you just don't know what to buy, don't limit the recipient to a certain store... cash lets them go wherever they want to get whatever it is their little heart desires...

Are we getting back to basics now or what? Here's a partial list of what I've found that's going on in the retail world as in right now... Please scroll down to the bottom and read my "note," k? Thanks!

FREE Groceries!

It's the Rx Shuffle!
I got the most amazing coupon in the mail today... it's for a grocery store that we have here in CA, Ralph's... so this particular deal may only apply to CA residents, however... it should be an encouragement for everyone to look for similar deals!

Okay... back to the coupon... all I have to do is transfer 3 prescriptions or take in 3 new prescriptions and Ralph's will give me $60 in FREE groceries! And they have an incredible generic program that you can get a 3-month prescription for $10!

So, fellow Californians, check in with your local Ralph's pharmacy... I don't know too many folks that can't use $60 worth of FREE groceries to help the budget out a little bit right now... LOL!

Oh, and I was also in Walgreen's today (yes, I was out running around)... and they had a special coupon in their flyer that if you transfer just one prescription in, they will give you a $25 gift card to use to buy anything your little heart desires in their store...

Also, watch the generic lists from Wal-Mart to Ralph's to your local grocery store pharmacy to Walgreen's and all the rest... I just had a prescription filled at Walgreen's the other day and low and behold it's on the "generic list" at Ralph's that I could have gotten for $4 or 3 months for $10! Yikes! So pay attention and save some dollars... see how pinching those pennies are turning into dollars?

Told you... grins!

Penny Scattering... the Joy of!

I know that we're all "pinching pennies" and literally "counting pennies" instead of dollars these days and with that said, we still need to find JOY and HOPE!

So this is a hint in spreading joy and hope that will bring immediate joy to your heart which is so important in surviving tough times! Remember the Beggar's Rhyme that we hear during the holiday season?

"Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat,
Please put a penny in the old man's hat;
If you haven't got a penny a ha' penny will do,
If you haven't got a ha' penny, God bless you!"
~Beggar's Rhyme

Joy in finding shiny pennies or any penny has long been a tradition of 'good luck' and emanates feelings of hope and joy!

So why don't you SPREAD that JOY this holiday season in a very simple way... give the gift of JOY every day! Make someones lucky day! Let me ask you... don't you experience a feeling of hope and joy when you find a penny in the parking lot at the grocery store or outside the bank or any where? I, personally, look at it as a sign of hope that there is always more money to come... maybe not as quickly as we would like but finding a penny ALWAYS sparks joy and hope in my heart!

When you get pennies in change, don't put them in your pocket or let them fall to the bottom of your purse... instead, on your way to the car, drop them on the sidewalk on the street where you're parked or in the parking lot as you leave the grocery store or the mall... on the way to the rest room at the coffee house...

This "little gift" is sure to make someones day in bringing joy and hope and I guarantee that it will bring good feelings to your heart and a smile to your lips.

You know, it truly is the "little things in life" that really count!

Happy Penny Scattering!

"Cheeeep" Eating!

The time has changed and it's dark when you get home from work... it already feels like winter. And what's for dinner? You have to stop at the grocery store and pick up a few things and you're tired... sound familiar?

And, boy... those rotisserie chickens under those warming lights as you come through the doors at the grocery store sure look tempting... but that price tag... weren't they $5.99 just a couple of weeks ago? It looks like they're $6.99 and $7.99 now... sigh... the food budget...

Cheer up! It's time for a little planning and "cheeeeep eating!" Start watching your weekly grocery ads and buy whole chickens when they are on sale. You'll be able to find fresh, whole chickens for 89 cents a pound... Let's see... that means you can get a good sized one, say 3 1/2 pounds, for about $3.12! Cheeeeeeeep!

All you have to do is use some of your favorite spices like fresh rosemary... some lemon pepper.... garlic... everything goes with chicken.... and pop your bargain bird in the oven for about an hour and you can use the rest of the money for the trimmings and side dishes.

Enjoy your fresh and delicious "cheep eating!"
